Father, Master, Comforter, Provider, Almighty, Healer, Great Physician, Shepard, and the list goes on. All these names refer to God in the many capacities He interacts with us in our lives.
The question so often is, how can God be all things? There are three things we must understand that help explain this. You see, God is Omniscience, Omnipresent and Omnipotent. But what does this mean?
Omniscience means God is all-knowing.
Omnipresence means God is all-present.
Omnipotence means God is all-powerful.
First, God is omniscient. He is all-knowing, as God is aware of the past, the present, and the future. He is the Creator of all things, and the Godhead—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—are by nature all-knowing.
God knows where we come from and where we are in our relationship with Him. God knows everything that will occur until the end of history itself –
Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me. Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure’” – Isaiah 46:9-10
God also knows our very thoughts, even before we speak. Psalm 139 tells us, “For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. Lord, You have searched me and known me. You comprehend my path and are acquainted with all my ways.”
With this knowledge, there is nothing too hard for God. He promises to never leave nor forsake us because He knew us before we were formed (v. 13-15).
Faith in God allows us to be secure in Him and all He has done and will do in our lives. Along with being all-knowing, God is also omnipresent or all-present.
In being omnipresent, God is literally everywhere. When reading the Bible, it is easy to see that God is always there, speaking to them, guiding them, watching over them, and providing for them. We find this from the very beginning when he spoke to Adam and Eve in the Garden. We see it with Moses, Joseph, Jonah, Noah, David, Soloman, and the list goes on.
You can also read of God being a guide in situations, especially when those who love Him pray. We see it with Esther, Hannah, Abraham, Elijah, and the list goes on again. God promised never to leave nor forsake us. He consistently keeps that promise all throughout the Bible and to this day.
God so wanted to be present in our lives that He sent Jesus to guide us back to Him. Even when Jesus knew He would be leaving, He let those close to him know that they would not be alone even when He was not physically there anymore. He would send the Holy Spirit to continue to be with and guide us. Always present. Omnipresent.
At times, it may be hard to see, feel, or hear God, but the thing is, even in those times, we are not alone. He gives us His peace when we ask in all situations.
So now, if we recognize and understand that God is all-knowing and always present, then it stands to reason God is omnipotent or all-powerful. God has the power to carry out His plans.
God has shown us time and time again in the Bible that He is all-powerful. He showed His power when He spoke the Earth into existence, created the land and the seas, created all living things, and separated day from night.
For Moses and the Israelite people, He parted the Red Sea for them to escape the Egyptians, guided them by night as a pillar of fire, and fed them manna from heaven every day. His power is seen in His decision to preserve man when He chose to bring the floods that filled the Earth by instructing Noah to build the Ark and save two of all of Earth’s creatures. God truly has no limits.
As many read this, they will ask if God is known, always present, and powerful, why do bad things happen?
God can do anything that is in harmony with His character. God gave us free will, and with that comes things that are the opposite of good, that being evil. Evil manifests itself in many different ways, and some of them are destructive and unjust. However, even in those things, God can still unfold His purpose and bring good out of that destruction.
We see that when Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery. Joseph endured many hardships and was treated unjustly, but ultimately, he was elevated beyond anything his brothers could have imagined.
We have seen evil things happen, and then you see the good that sometimes comes from it. God sent Jesus, knowing that He would be beaten and killed all for our redemption.
Please, never think that anything you have done can keep God from bringing good into your life.
Just remember,
If you think you have blown God’s plans for your life, rest in this. You, my beautiful friend, are not that powerful.” – Lisa Bevere.
