Thoughts from a Worship Leader with Karlee Oliver
“Fear is Not My Future” by Maverick City
It’s taken me months to write this because of fear—isn’t that ironic? Fear convinces us that the worst is yet to come and clouds our ability to see the promise that lies ahead. What if we could shift our perspective? What if we embraced the truth that fear is not our future?
Let Him turn it in your favor / Watch Him work it for your good…”
I first heard this song at a Maverick City concert in Jacksonville two years ago. The first lines caught my attention; a biblical promise (Romans 8:28) assures us that all things work together for the good of those who love God. Even when life seems uncertain, we are encouraged to trust His promise- everything will fall into place in His time.
Faith is not about denying the existence of fear. Faith is about acknowledging it and choosing to move forward in confident faith. We can hold fast to the comfort of knowing that our God is bigger than our fears; no matter our challenges, we are not alone. Faith gives us the strength to overcome obstacles and the courage to step boldly into the future.
Fear is not my future—You are.”
I hope this bridge reminds you that your future is not defined by your fears but by God’s divine plan. It encourages us to see each day as a new beginning—a chance to let go of the past and step into a future filled with possibility.
Too often, we allow fear to dictate our actions and decisions. We stay in jobs that don’t fulfill us, hold on to relationships that no longer serve us, or avoid pursuing our dreams because we fear failure. The beauty in this song is the challenge to reframe our thinking—the reminder that fear is temporary and doesn’t have the final say in our lives.
Hello peace, hello joy, hello love…”
Hope is believing something good is on the horizon, even when we can’t see it. And even better, it is a powerful faith-driven antidote to fear. This chorus reminds us that when we choose to let go of fear, we make room for these beautiful gifts to enter our lives.
In moments of despair, it’s easy to lose sight of hope. But when I listen to this song, I feel encouraged to hold on and keep believing that better days are ahead. Hope is what keeps us going when the road is rough, and it’s what allows us to dream of a future filled with joy and fulfillment. Imagine what you would do if you weren’t afraid—afraid of financial stress, afraid of failure, afraid of judgmental people. When we are no longer paralyzed by fear and let God be God, He frees us to pursue our passions and helps us make a difference in the world.
If you feel afraid, please know you are not alone—I’m right there with you. Sometimes, faith is hard to hold onto. The best thing I ever did in the middle of my fear was seek His presence in His Church.
I hope you’ll join us on Sunday morning; let’s face fear together!
