See No Evil

See No Evil

This is the first post of a three-part series from Yvette.

How often do you see things and think you wish you had not seen them, or are embarrassed by what you have seen?

In the world today, things happen that sometimes leave us shaking our heads and wondering how they happened.

How often in those moments do you pray or reach out to God for His covering over the scene you have witnessed?

Something else to consider is how often in your own home do you watch TV and truly pay attention to what you are watching?

Do you watch the news or the trending program that shows violence or dark themes?

Are your children or grandchildren playing games with these same themes as the center of the game?

Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is bad, your body is full of darkness” – Luke 11:34.

If our eyes are lamps to our bodies, should we not be more conscious of what we allow ourselves to see? As Christians, we should be more aware of the things of the world that we take in. Mindfulness is something we should take seriously.

The things we see can shape the way we think, the way we react, or the way to process information. It can lead to bias, causing you to judge, which we are not supposed to do.

This work can be very impactful. The things going on around us present us with a path to follow at every turn. The path of the world or the path of God. We need to remember what Paul wrote to the church in Rome:

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” – Romans 12:2.

Conforming to this world is not an option that Christians should entertain. Small compromises lead to a path away from God. We are asked to watch out for things that can cause division, not only division among ourselves but also division from God.

The things we entertain in our lives impact our walk with God. If we believe that we can make choices without God’s influence and direction, we are opening the door to failure.

Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones” – Proverbs 3:7-8.

We are asked to be mindful of our peace. Peace comes from walking by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Peace comes from not willfully watching things we know are not to entertain.

Guard your eyes when you can. May your eyes be healthy, so that your whole body may be filled with light. May God’s light shine on your path and His peace fill your life as you guard your eyes and walk with God.

Remember that God wants you to walk with Him in peace and abundance, so stand in faith and fill yourself with good things.

Then turning to the disciples, Jesus said privately, ‘Blessed are the eyes that see what you see!'” – Luke 10:23.
