Healing What Is Broken Within: Week Five in Lent

Healing What Is Broken Within: Week Five in Lent

Sometimes we find ourselves in a quiet and challenging place—the hidden corners of our hearts. This season is a time to reflect on sacrifice and prepare for the cross. Lent also invites us to bring our hidden wounds into God’s light, trusting that He can heal what we have carried for so long.

We all carry broken pieces—old grief, harsh words, or mistakes we can’t forget. Often, we try to hide this pain and keep busy, hoping it will fade. However, ignoring emotional and spiritual wounds only makes them harder to bear.

But God does not want you to hide your brokenness. Instead, He moves toward it. Transitioning from hiding to healing, the scriptures show us how God comes close to our pain. He is not One who turns away.

The Lord heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds” – Psalm 147:3.

These words show gentle, active care. Just as a doctor places a bandage on a wound to protect it and help it heal, God wants to do the same for your heart. He sees where you feel broken. He responds with deep, gentle care—not judgment.

When Jesus began His ministry, He made His purpose clear by reading from Isaiah 61:1-2 …

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, for He has anointed Me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come” – Luke 4:18-19.

Then Jesus explained how these words have been fulfilled through Him. Jesus came not just to teach or to do miracles, but to set people free from the chains within our minds and hearts—bitterness, anxiety, fear, and shame. With this freedom, He wants you to see yourself as He does: whole, loved, and worthy of grace.

Healing is rarely a quick fix. It is usually a slow, steady walk. As we let God touch our wounded places, a shift happens. We stop being defined by our scars. Paul captures this truth:

Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” – 2 Corinthians 5:17.

God’s healing does not simply glue our broken pieces back together. Instead, He takes the shattered fragments of our lives and builds something new, weaving our pain into a story of redemption. The places where you felt most broken often become where God’s light shines brightest.

Today, pause for a moment. What hidden wounds are you still carrying? What old pain is weighing you down? You do not have to pretend the hurt does not exist.

Bring your heart to God just as it is. Step into the light and let Him do the slow, beautiful work of restoring your soul. Trust that the same God who breathes life into the dead can breathe peace into your weary, broken spaces.

As you walk into the days ahead, choose to face your hidden pain with courage. Accept His healing touch. Actively open your heart to the transformation He offers you.

A Prayer for Healing

Heavenly Father, You know the wounds I carry. You see the places where I feel broken, even the ones I try so hard to hide from the rest of the world. I ask You to step into those spaces right now. Gently bandage my wounds. Replace my anxiety with Your peace, and my shame with Your love. Remind me that Jesus came to set me free from this pain. Help me to trust Your renewing work in my life. Remind me that You are making me a new creation. Give me the courage to surrender my broken pieces to You. I know you will build something beautiful. For I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
